Searching for “team building ideas” on Google returns approximately 124 million results. With that much content to choose from the problem isn’t sourcing ideas; the problem becomes CHOOSING the best ideas. Unfortunately, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to team building. Important factors to consider when choosing the right team building activity include:
- Personality Types
- Size of Group
- Time Available
- Materials Available
- Overall Budget
Areas of Improvement
- Problem Solving
Be skeptical of activities that claim to be about team building, but don’t have specific goals. Most of these amount to little more than company sponsored socials (with mandatory attendance). Without a specific goal in mind or a properly trained facilitator, it’s highly unlikely that these activities will produce necessary and lasting change.
Put another way, don’t expect one night at the local bowling alley to cure years of poor communication and bad habits!
